Astraware — John Phillips

Astraware is the Handmark Game studio and the premier developer and publisher of award-winning games and entertainment software across a range of smartphone platforms including UIQ, S60, Windows Mobile and mobile Linux. Prior to his move to Business Development, John was in charge of the company’s Marketing and PR functions, having joined Astraware from the marketing department at Game (Stores) Ltd, the UK’s largest dedicated video games retailer.

Raised in the North West of England, John attended Manchester University and gained a First Class Honours Degree in English Language. Before settling in Marketing and Business Development, John had a varied career path which included time as a freelance Radio Journalist, and several months at Europe’s Premier Leisure Park where amongst other roles he performed daily in a giant dog suit!

Barefoot Software — Emanuele Cipolloni

Emanuele started to work with computers when they had half a kilobyte of RAM, since then his passion has always been with computer graphic and he has relentlessly developed many graphical oriented software. After 4 years spent at Texas Instruments developing innovative interfaces for die testing and sampling software, he has worked for one of the leading European software companies in the data management field where he met his business partner Mark Hillsdon. Together with Mark, he created Barefoot Software in 2001 and he developed eyeGT, an innovative graphical application platform that has already won market acceptance and critics in the always demanding embedded software development universe.

Carbide/Nokia Development tools — Michael Heinz

Michael Heinz, born October 1962 in Germany, has 5 years in Software development (assembler) and 15 years of experience in Software sales. Michael´s current position is Senior sales manager for Carbide C++ tools at Nokia.

CellPhoneSoft — Zoltan Gyorgypal

Zoltan studied and holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics. After working on inter-cellular communications and evolutionary bio-informatics, he turned to computing architectures and practical programming. He participated in compiler and runtime developments for the Force programming language. In 2004 he launched CellPhoneSoft, whose products soon became widely recognized by power users of UIQ smartphones. As the Lead Architect at CellPhoneSoft, Zoltan defines the company’s profile as a prominent provider of system-level applications, tailored for the demanding end-user.

EMCC Software — Steve Wilkinson

Steve is VP Engineering at EMCC Software Ltd based in Manchester, UK. He’s worked in the Symbian OS arena for over 7 years and has been involved in the development of applications for UIQ based smartphones for over 5 years.Amongst many other tasks, Steve is responsible for managing the EMCC training team. He has worked on a wide variety of software projects and led the team which brought BlackBerry to Sony Ericsson’s UIQ based phones.

Handango — Neil Wooding

Neil currently works for Handango Inc in the UK as Director, Strategic Alliances EMEA. His role takes him worldwide working with OEM, MNO and retail partners for the number smartphone retailer online. With a background in New Media, Neil was hired as Head of New Media for Psion Plc. He then transitioned to Ogilvy&Mather as Head of Pervasive Media responsible for client mobile strategy. Before joining Handango , as Founder of Cascata Limited, he was instrumental in creating a number of noteworthy successes including award-winning technology. He bring nearly 9 years on Mobile / Wireless experience with a bias towards brand and design.

m:metrics — Alistair Hill

Alistair focuses on mobile content consumption trends for M:Metrics the mobile media research company. Alistair previously worked in Client services where he supported the analytical and research needs of mobile operators, handset manufactures, media companies and advertising agencies. He started his professional life by helping to set up two internet companies (which are still in existence!) in the music and news sectors prior to working in business development at the Financial Times.

Mobrio — John Holloway

With over two decades experience of designing compact mobile software applications including a deep understanding of all the leading mobile operating systems, John is one of the most experienced mobile software architects in the world. John is currently the Chief Technical Officer at ZingMagic Limited, a mobile games development company, and the Director of Client Software Applications at Mobrio Limited, a UGC and mobile consultancy and services provider.

Motorola — Paul Leeper

Paul’s Market & Business Development team is responsible for working with developers and technology enabling companies to discover, develop and deliver core functionality and rich experiences that differentiate Motorola products. This team provides the entire lifecycle of partner relationship management across the full range of Motorola platforms and business units while driving delivery of compelling solutions in key market segments from enterprise to games and entertainment.

Motorola — Steve Stefanik

Steve brings more than a decade of Mobile / Wireless experience to his role as Market Development Manager of productivity for Motorola’s Ecosystem and Market Development group. In this capacity, Steve manages industry leading productivity developers across Motorola, has establish the developer value chain for WM and UIQ within MOTODEV and has helped to build the productivity segment for Motorola products. Prior to Motorola, Steve held manager positions at Cingular/ATT, PalmSource, Palm Inc. and Iomega focused on building world-class developer programs and developer relationships. Steve’s background also includes 10 years of sales and a strong passion for community development, team development and fostering innovation in others.

Orange — Steve Parrott

Steve has over 13 years of Partner Management experience, and is currently Head of Partner Alliances at Orange, based in London, UK. He joined Orange in 2001 and was instrumental in building their group developer programme, Orange Partner. Steve manages the relationship between Orange Partner and its top tier alliance partners such as the OEMs and platform providers. He also manages much of the Orange Partner operations with a focus on bringing mobile applications into their commercial channel.

Penrillian — Charles Weir

Charles Weir is one of the pioneers of the mobile software industry. As lead architect on the Ericsson R380, he helped define the smartphone as we know it today. Today Charles is managing director of Penrillian, a high-end outsourced development firm working with the likes of T-Mobile, Handmark and Sybase. Penrillian’s expert development team was described by AllAboutSymbian.com as “hired guns with very accurate guns”.

Sony Ericsson — Abbas Sumar

Abbas is responsible to work with Sony Ericsson’s 3rd Party Application to create long-term partnerships and ensure that applications are promoted and bundled/packaged as part of Sony Ericsson extended offering with different handsets. He manages Business Development activities with application partners/suppliers to identify, develop and create go-to-market opportunities for existing and new technologies for Sony Ericsson handsets. Abbas has worked within the Telecom and IT industry for the last 16 years, with experience from both network and consumer industries. He has held different product and line management positions and was part of building and creating the success of Sony Ericsson Developer World responsible for all developer resources for content and application development.

Sun Microsystem — Petr Suchomel

Petr Suchomel is an engineering tech lead for the NetBeans Mobility Pack, concentrating on high-level issues, usability and cooperation with partners. He has been focused on architecture and development for mobility tools for more than five years. He hold many presentation on various events including UIQ Developer Fast Track in past.

Symbian — Sanjeet Matharu

Sanjeet Matharu graduated from the University of Westminster in 1998 and joined Symbian in 2000 as a software engineer. He became technical architect culminating in the creation of the Symbian Test Network. In 2004 he managed the Symbian Signed program and worked closely with licensees such as Sony Ericsson. Sanjeet currently defines Symbian’s Developer Program strategies and works with members of programs such as the UIQ Developer Community.

Symbian — Erik Jacobson

Erik Jacobson has over 15 years experience in the software industry and joined Symbian in 2000. He has been the technical lead on various projects for a number of large handset manufacturers. Currently, as a Product Manager, Jacobson leads the Development Environment Strategy at Symbian. He recently launched P.I.P.S. (P.I.P.S. Is Posix on Symbian OS).

SYSOPENDIGIA — Sami Viitanen

Sami is currently working in Consultancy team of SYSOPENDIGIA providing technical traning and consulting for the Symbian OS projects worldwide. Sami has a long work history in telecom industry and working experience as an entrepreneur and partner as well as in globally operating mobile companies from the areas of software design and testing to project management, product management and expert positions.

UIQ Technology — Elisabet Melin

Elisabet Melin joined Ericsson Mobile Communications in 1998, when she started her career as usability engineer in early research and development of bluetooth. She moved on to start up the design of the user interface in a joint project between Ericsson and Psion, which resulted in the UIQ platform. In 2000, Elisabet was appointed Product Manager for UIQ and took on the role as Head of Marketing and Sales two years later. She has played a vital role in expanding the business and company to almost 400 employees, and is now responsible for growing the ecosystem around UIQ.

UIQ Technology — Naresh Chouhan

Naresh is globally responsible for all third-party developer interaction and programs at UIQ Technology. Naresh has a long history in telecommunications achievements having worked on some of the earliest digital packet radio networks introducing new products and services all the way through to launching complex, intelligent network consumer products on modern GSM and 3G networks. Prior to joining UIQ, Naresh has held senior positions in companies such as Orange, Motorola and Ubiquity Software and has managed several complex initiatives such as launching Orange’s 3G Network & Enablers program and introducing new location based services to market. Naresh holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics and Combined Engineering and several post-graduate qualifications in marketing and public relations.

UIQ Technology — Matthias Reik

Matthias Reik is a System Architect at UIQ with more than 10 years of C++ programming experience. He started however his programming career when he got his first PC, an 8088, in the 80s. He has ever since been interested in computers and started to appreciate all different kind of systems that are constantly around us. He believes that software development is still a very young discipline, and tries to learn and use knowledge from all other kind of areas.

Since 1998, Matthias contributes heavily to the Symbian/UIQ world by joining Ericsson Mobile Communications and later Symbian/UIQ. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. (Univ.) degree in Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg.
