Adventures in the programming jungle. Less of a presentation and more an interactive session, John has chosen some topics close to a developers heart with the objective of sharing some of his extensive experience. By shedding some light on these topics developers should be able to develop higher quality, more robust applications in a shorter timescale. Warning, this session contains useful real world technical information and absolutely no graphs about how many devices may or may not be manufactured by whom in the next 12 months!

UIQ Development – The Platform, The power to be flexible and innovative

Technical track

It is easy to find API and design documentation within the SDK for both UIQ and Symbian, however it is much harder to really understand the reasoning behind those APIs and designs. This presentation will try to fill the gap and provide some background information to make it easier to use UIQ 3. Suddenly the API and design documents should make sense and should be easier to understand. The presentation starts with a short presentation of the requirements and challenges that were faced when designing UIQ 3. It will then provide some detailed information regarding 3 important concepts: The CPF (Command Processing Framework), Managed Layouts, and File Handling. At the end we will sum things up and provide some recommendations for your development.
